I realized as I moved on that I probably should just rename the project since I was only targeting PHP 5.2+ (i.e. deviating away from SAjax's goals). I have been working on a PHP framework of my own and have my modified version of SAjax within that (I call it KAjax, now). I did away with the procedural style calls and it's now completely object-oriented although I still have to add proper UTF-8 support :P Very cool to hear that someone is pushing SAjax forward!
